Furlough Scheme Ending Puts Pressure on HR Management

On 1st July, the Government reduced the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme to 70%. This figure was then again reduced to 60% throughout August, and September is set to see the furlough scheme end entirely. This means that employers will see a mass return to the office and workplace for employees in the final few months of the year.

Since March 2020, when the furlough scheme began, companies have been handed a lifeline meaning they have been able to continue to pay their staff while income was low or virtually nil. By 30 September 2021, companies are expected to stand on their own two feet again and take on the responsibility of huge numbers of returning staff.

The returning workforce will imminently put a strain on the HR team and cause issues with payroll and clocking shift hours. Should you feel this is an issue your business will face, below is a solution.

How to manage your returning workforce

Unrivalled HR time and attendance software

Tensor also offers the Self Service Module (SSM) which is a web-based application that allows enrolled employees to clock ‘in’ or ‘out’ of their shift and book themselves ‘on’ or ‘off’ the fire evacuation list and for lunch breaks. The SSM may also be used by employees to request new periods of absence, cancel pending absence requests or cancel approved absence requests that have not yet occurred. Requests can also be made to add missed clocking’s, amend or delete clocking’s made in error.
